Provide an effective and high-quality RSHE curriculum for your students

On this course, you’ll improve your understanding of the statutory requirements of the US RSHE curriculum.

As you explore the US national statistics on the health and relationships of young people, you’ll learn the value of upholding these requirements if you teach RSHE.

As well as receiving guidance on setting up an effective learning environment, you’ll access self-assessment criteria, RSE lesson plans and activities, suggested reading, and audit tools.

You’ll also be encouraged to reflect on your current practice and provision, your attitude to your teaching, and the issues you cover in your RSHE classes.

 

What topics will you cover?

  • Provide guidance on establishing ground rules and learning agreements to support children and young people in feeling safe and secure
  • To support teachers/facilitators in setting clear expectations
  • Opportunities to reflect on guidance for policies for the teaching and learning of RSHE
  • Ensure all stakeholders are clear and informed of the rationale, systems and approaches taken in the planning and delivery of these subjects
  • Benchmarking current provision and identifying areas for development

  • Develop knowledge of national statistics of children and young peoples engagement in unhealthy activities and relationships
  • Reflect on current RSHE/PSHE practice
  • Improve knowledge of ground rules that can be set as a base for conversations with children and young people during the teaching of RSHE/PSHE
  • Reflect on statutory requirements as set out by the DfE and audit current practices in line with this

This course is designed for professionals who deliver relationships, sex or health education to children or young people.

This may include primary and secondary schools teachers and subject leaders, senior leaders in schools, teaching assistants, pastoral support workers.

It will also be useful for health professionals such as school nurses, and youth workers in independent or voluntary groups working with children.
